A downloadable game for Windows

Traveller's Hymn is a top-down, grid-based open-world adventure game. Explore a vast land, battle monsters, collect loot, help locals, and cook hearty meals while unraveling the mystery behind the land's curse.

This is a free project made by the Aquatic Ranger Studio in ~4 months.

If you downloaded your game prior to v1.0.1.3 or don't know what your version is, then please download the newest version.

You'll be able to continue with your save, but it addresses a critical bug.

Looks very interesting, but sadly it's only for Windows...

What platform are you on? Steam version is running fine on Linux using proton.

I'm running two different GNU/Linux distributions, none is Debian-based, and they are both "pure 64-bit", so no multilib installed (which is necessary for Steam because it's 32-bit). But I wouldn't use Steam anyway. It would be nice if there was a generic Linux 64-bit release which is not bound to a specific platform/distribution. This of course depends on the libraries used to develop the game (most do work on GNU/Linux).
I realize I am a minority though. You probably won't have many requests like mine, and if that's the case, no need to bother. At any rate, your game looks really interesting.

Ah, the game isn't mine. I just thought to leave a comment when I saw a fellow Linux user struggling.
Still, thanks for the lengthy response. Pushing for native releases is always great. Wish you the best.

已经通关。游戏很精彩,短小精干,游戏设定也很好,改良了回合制游戏的痛点,战斗得到了简化,有一些小瑕疵,但瑕不掩瑜,期待增加一些更多的内容,加油!

Already cleared customs. The game is very exciting, short and concise, the game settings are also very good, the pain points of turn based games have been improved, and the battles have been simplified. There are some minor flaws, but the flaws do not overshadow the strengths. Looking forward to adding more content, come on!

Well, It looks nice, I will make a video a to introduce it on bili.

would you mind?

Also, what's your game engine?

And, hope there is a Linux version so I can play it.

No we do not mind! We use Godot, but we don't intend on supporting the game on multiple platforms, apologies!

Well,Never mind.

I'm using Godot to make games and videos too, Glad you have the same choice.

Such a perfect gem of a game! The tile sprites are excellent, and I'm impressed by how you've created such variety in items and monsters with such simple game mechanics. A few suggestions:

  • The merchant isn't accepting my golden tusk for the shapeshifter quest - maybe a bug?
  • What if instead of click and drag, you click once to pick up and again to put down an item? Then you could also allow clicking to swap an item with another of the same size (e.g. armor).
  • Would it add any interesting dynamics if some monster attacks were proportional to their HP, like the PC's weapons?
  • The ending was a bit anticlimactic - maybe add one last extra-tough monster guarding the dragon?
  • Am I right that there's currently no way to store items? What if you allowed placing items back into a chest in addition to taking them out?
  • On the second floor of the asylum at the very top you can look down onto the first floor, and you see a giant spider there even if it's dead. That confused me - I thought it was some other room I hadn't visited.
  • The font felt like a mismatch for the pixel art. Maybe steal an idea from Moonring and use a blockier font? Or even just one with slightly wider letters?
  • In the Catacombs the two ghosts near the dying knight are only present if I've come up from underground (I think) - if I leave and return they're gone. Is that intentional?
  • Could you mark creatures as friendly or hostile before I walk up to them, so I don't have to be afraid of friendly NPCs in unfamiliar places?

Wow! What a great set of feedback, very appreciated.

  • There should be a very specific shapeshifter that drops a specific golden tusk. It's definitely our miss that it's not distinguishable though.
  • You can actually right click on an item to move them around. But swap is something we're missing for sure. No real explanation for it, just we wanted wrap things up and move onto the next project so swap was considered non-essential.
  • Yeah, we talked about it. But we felt the calculations might be too much for an auto-battler. There are also a lot of mobs, which makes deciding whether to attack a monster a chore.
  • Agreed; we also talked about the ending a bit. Again, we just wanted to wrap things up - it was a 2 weeks project turned 4 months and we wanted to start a new project.
  • Correct there are no way to store items; its a deliberate design choice - there are loads of powerful items in the game and we'd like the player to choose what to keep.
  • Wow good observation! Yeah the asylum thing is just a visual trick. There is no conditional programming.
  • I will let our UX designer know
  • It's intended, but not how you imagined. If your mind is too low, you'll get a debuff called Fractured Mind. You'll be able to see ghosts and special NPCs when you're in this state.
  • All characters are marked. Hover over them with your mouse and you'll see tags like NPC or ENEMY

Hopefully I've answered all of your questions!

I have "finished the main questline of this game", in one evening as after I started I couldn't stop playing. The game is fun, the presentation is great (both the visuals and music), I really like that you went with named items (no template). The rise in power is satisfying, the overall adventure part is cool and I really liked the ending, I enjoyed just putting back the sword and chatting with the spirits, the dragon looks specially nice by the way.

I started with an old version and switching to the new version in the middle of the playthrough worked perfectly, that was super cool too.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the game.

Thank you for the comment, means a lot to us <3

Just finished it and I love it.

Congratulations!
The atmosphere and color pallete are awesome, and the world is fun to  explore and so full of details you almost forgot its made of tiles. I specially liked the way the trees are made and also the dragon was beautiful!

Sometimes the spawn rate of the enemies seem like too much and you cant walk 2 steps without a fight but otherwise amazing work.
The only thing missing in my opinion is an ending song when you talk to the spirits so is not the same sad song of the burning city.

Thank you for this amazing evening of adventure you gifted me!

Thank you! We're glad that you've enjoyed our little game :)

The enemy spawn rate has been a constant complain - so I've decided to lower it a bit.

Also playing a different song at the end of the game is a great idea - we'll shop around and update that :D

it seems the game has a resolution problem, my native resolution is 1366x768 and the game opens with a cut screen, alt+enter don’t open a widowed mode and there is no other resolution options, i think you guys might give it a look on that

Thanks for the feedback. Give the newest build a shot - it should now support your resolution. But be warned - we originally designed the game around 1080p only, so you'll get some unintended behavior with the graphics. The game is still fully playable though!

now i could play the game really cool game, at first i was worried about the lack of agency on the combat but after a few minutes it grows on me and i enjoyed a lot and finished the entire game.

really cool aesthetic too, the only thing i think it could change is having a endgame state after you solve the main quest… you know, just the npcs responding to your great feat

you guys should keep doing more “mini roguelikes” with this art style

Glad to hear that you've enjoyed our little project! You're right, we've done a retro on the project and also believe the ending could've used more work. Thank you for the feedback!

Having a great time with the game so far! Had a weird bug with not being able to loot things but the update fixed it (now I just need to get another white deer to spawn assuming that it will)

I've now reached the hero and lost my first fight to him. When I came back he is outside the bounds of the map and I am denied a rematch. I assume this is a bug. Gonna try and pass some time to see if he resets

That is an unfortunate bug. We will look into this.

Thanks for the feedback. If you try the newest build, the hero should reset after a restart of the game. It's by no mean a perfect fix, but it should unblock you until I have time to properly sit down and debug. Apologies for the inconvenience!

(1 edit)

No apologies necessary! Hero fix did indeed work. Thank you!

I'm having another inventory bug though. I have an invisible axe in my inventory that I can equip but cannot drop (I could sell it though so it's not a dire problem)

Finished the game and had a great time! Good work on getting all the little quirks fixed and good luck in the future!

Thanks for playing! Glad to hear that you've enjoyed our little game!

What an amazing game! The fact that this is free seems wrong. Guys, get this on Steam and it will be a hit!

Thank you very much for the encouragement! We are planning on releasing it on steam later this week/next week.
